Selects Alatto to bring Picture Messaging to Life
Vodafone today announced that it will be the first mobile
operator to empower end users to author, manage and send their
own personal multimedia messages (MMS) using the revolutionary
Memphis platform from Alatto Technologies.
According to Fiona O'Connor, Product Marketing Manager for
Vodafone, "Other operators simply provide a limited library
of MMS content for users. By using Memphis, our Vodafone Live
Picture Messaging Service will go far beyond this. Vodafone
customers will get more out of their MMS handsets by building
and forwarding their own content. This form of user-generated
content will drive the adoption of MMS in the same way as
SMS, e-mail and even the Web".
"Memphis is easy to use and allows users to create high impact,
ready-to-run MMS in minutes without any programming skills",
said John Whelan, Director of Alatto. "Only by designing this
system completely from the ground up were we able to anticipate
and meet the specific needs of innovative mobile operators
such as Vodafone".
O'Connor explained the decision to join forces with Alatto:
"When we launch our full Picture Messaging service before
Christmas, we want our customers to have access to compelling
content and stimulating experiences that are second to none.
Memphis provides a very powerful tool which consumers will
be very comfortable using every day. In addition, it provides
high levels of flexibility, scalability and cost effectiveness
which were important considerations for us".
"The rigorous selection process undertaken by Vodafone yet
again proves that Alatto is a dominant specialist in the wireless
space", continued John Whelan. "We are delighted to help Vodafone
achieve their vision of enriching customers' lives with relevant
and engaging mobile applications."
"Memphis will help operators such as Vodafone to significantly
increase their revenues per user from Multimedia Messaging
Services. It is a proven solution which reduces the risk,
cost and time to market for value added MMS services", Whelan
added.

Memphis provides consumers and content producers with fast and

content as MMS.
The Memphis suite comprises a number of integrated elements:
- The Media Album is a repository for multimedia content (images,
photos, audio, video clips etc.) and can be accessed through
a web, wap, or email interface. In addition, to their own personal
content, the Media Album enables users to compose multimedia
messages with content from 3rd Party Providers. If necessary,
it automatically detects the destination device and formats
the content accordingly.
- The MMS Composer enables a user to edit and manipulate images,
animations, photos and audio clips and to create new MMS messages.
Based on standard user interfaces, this authoring tool is exceptionally
easy to learn. - A Subscription server that allows end users
to subscribe to MMS services, such as news, horoscope, sports
results, games, travel promotions etc. - A Bulk Dispatcher that
allows Operators to run sophisticated marketing campaigns and
send MMS to end users.
- A digital rights management protection tool (DRM) that protects
content from being forwarded or copied without the content owner's
permission.
